Other Ways to Give

IRA Qualified Charitable Deductions

In December of 2015, both the Senate and House passed the Protecting Americans From Tax Hikes Act of 2015 (H.R. 2029). The bill makes permanent the IRA Charitable Rollover for persons aged 70 1/2 or older. Depending on the type of Individual Retirement Account (IRA) you have, you may be eligible to make a direct transfer of up to $100,000 per year to a qualified charity. The IRA Qualified Charitable Deductions (QCDs) are tax-free and not included in adjusted gross income. Consult a financial advisor for more information and to see if this option benefits you.

Matching Gifts

This is an easy way to increase the impact of your gift. Check with your employer to see if they match employees’ charitable donations. Typically your employer will have a form you can request and complete.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you are considering giving to FSM through a fund held by another entity, please let us know to expect your gift (a phone call or email is fine). This is because some of these fund managers or banks do not provide us the donor name, making it impossible for us to acknowledge these wonderful gifts. However, if we have heard from you we’ll be able to confirm that it was indeed your gift and we can properly thank you and acknowledge your contribution. (You can remain anonymous in our public donor reports but due to FSM’s policies, it is important for FSM to know who is contributing.)

Committed to Diversity

The Forest Society of Maine (FSM) recognizes the importance and urgency of increasing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in all elements of our mission and work. Please read FSM’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Statement here: FSM’s DEIJ Statement.

KIW-Silver Lake Drone Footage

The Forest Society of Maine is pleased to share with the public drone footage highlighting the unique values of the KIW-Silver Lake property. The drone footage can be accessed using the following link to a Google Drive folder: KIW Drone Footage. The footage was sponsored by Conservation Forestry, LLC and filmed by North Woods Aerial. The videos shared here also include subtitles for accessibility.

Maine Won’t Wait

The Maine Climate Council published a four-year plan for climate action in Maine in December 2020. The Council made two proposals that directly impact Maine’s forests. Firstly, an increase of 30% in total acreage of conserved lands in Maine by 2030 (30 by 30) through purchases of land and conservation easements. Secondly, the development of new programs and incentives to increase carbon storage.
