In 2001, the state of Maine acquired a conservation easement on 740 acres of shoreline around Wyman Lake owned by FPL Energy Maine Hydro LLC. Wyman Lake is the dammed portion of the Kennebec River between Bingham and Caratunk, in the scenic Kennebec Valley of Maine's western mountains. The easement prevents future development on the lakeshore, limits timber harvesting, and guarantees public access for traditional recreational uses. Because of FSM's experience with monitoring large-scale conservation easements, the state awarded FSM with the contract to perform annual monitoring activities. FSM was also contracted to complete the baseline documentation report for this easement.
