Liz was hired in 2000 to build the Forest Society of Maine’s stewardship program, and was the stewardship manager until 2007. In 2007, she reduced her role at FSM to a part-time position, and currently assists with the stewardship program. Liz has a strong background in ecology and natural resource management. She has a B.A. from Bryn Mawr College, and a joint Master’s in Forestry and Environmental Management from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment. Her research in North Carolina included work with The Nature Conservancy and Georgia-Pacific on a collaborative forest management plan to protect both economic and ecological values on the Roanoke River floodplain. She worked with the Maine Natural Areas Program in the spring and summer of 2000, performing botanical surveys in ecologically significant areas of the Maine North Woods, including parts of the West Branch lands. She has also worked in the field of ornithology in Maine, Connecticut, Montana, California, Alaska, and Belize.
