Katahdin Forest:

In June 2006, The Nature Conservancy transferred the Katahdin Forest conservation easement to the State of Maine Department of Conservation. After that transfer, the Bureau of Parks and Lands contracted with FSM to monitor this easement. This allows the Bureau of Parks and Lands to utilize FSM's knowledge and experience in monitoring large scale easements. The terms of the Katahdin Forest easement are similar to those of the West Branch easement, and although the forest types, harvesting practices, and outside pressures may be different, the monitoring and stewardship can easily be tailored from one to the other. |
