Clifton:

This donated easement is located less than 20 miles northeast of Bangor. The 1,689-acre forested parcel entirely encompasses two remote ponds, borders a third, and includes extensive wetland complexes and dramatic steep bluffs with scenic views of the surrounding hills. In an area of the state that is rapidly being subdivided and developed, this was a very important and exciting conservation opportunity. The landowners, Tom and Elizabeth Shipley, have owned the land since 1966, and plan to pass it on to their children. The easement ensures that it will remain primarily undeveloped and available for sustainable timber management forever.
