Big Spencer Mountain and Moosehead Lake:
| Located in North East Carry Township, T2R13 Wells, and TXR14 Wells, the Big Spencer Mountain and Moosehead Lake project is one of FSM’s most recent successes. Serving as cornerstones to the larger West Branch project, 4,242 acres around Big Spencer Mountain and nearly 6 miles of nearby Moosehead Lake shoreline were acquired by FSM for the state of Maine. Big Spencer Mountain is not only a dominant landmark above Moosehead Lake, but also a highly significant ecological area and a popular hiking destination offering spectacular views of Mount Katahdin and the entire West Branch region. As part of the Moosehead Lake shoreline that was protected, two important public access sites were acquired, including the famed portage landing at Northeast Carry. |
